Dear Wonderful Yuletide Writer,

THANK YOU! Thank you for writing something that I desperately want fic of. You are awesome, and I think I love you, even though I don't know you.

So, general things: I really love gen, drama, romance, fluff, angst, and fluffy angst. I also love subtle character pieces or big long sweeping stories. I actually love almost everything. The only real fic pet peeves I have are AUs that completely change the premise of the original story and extremely whiny characters. I'm also not a huge fan of smut, but I do like it if it's built into a larger story.

But really, I will love whatever you write me as long as you put effort into it and love the fandom as much as I do.

So, the fandom-specific notes:

Merlin Conspiracy: (I am just whole-sale copying what I wrote last year about this) I somehow ended up rereading this twice within six months, and now I am absolutely desperate for more.  I love the foundations DWJ set for Nick and Roddy---Nick's puppy-dog crush turning into respect and Roddy slowly coming to like him--and I'd love to see where that takes them a couple of years down the road.

Mad Men: I wrote "something post-season 3" or something to that effect on my actual request even though the season 3 finale hadn't aired yet and OMG how happy am I that I wrote that? I loved the crazy new dynamic that the finale introduced. I especially like how Pete and Peggy ended up because my whole thing about them is that I don't really want them to get together, I want them to rule the world. I would really love something about Pete and Peggy in this New World Order that's been created at Sterling, Cooper, Draper, and Pryce. It would be great seeing the other characters in it as well. Anything about their weird relationship would be really lovely.

Better off Ted: I love the huge group dynamic on this show; it's the absolute best part. If you could write fic about the wacky goings-on at Veridian, that would be awesome. If you want to add in some awkward Ted/Linda flirting, go for it, but what I really want is just a "typical" day at Veridian. What are they weaponizing that week, perhaps? Or what's malfunctioning and causing major problems? What crazy thing is Veronica doing? Give me wackiness, and I will be happy.

P.S. My Christmas morning is spent with my nephews, ages 6 and 4, so I will not get to a laptop until probably the afternoon. So don't expect a review from me until later in the day. It's not that I'm ungrateful for the fic, it's just that I will be running around like a crazy person trying to keep up with the fam.

Character/Pairing: Finn, rest of cast. Implied Finn/Rachel

He broke up with Quinn over the summer. He expected some sort of fallout from it, but there wasn’t any. His mom had never liked her, Glee definitely didn’t like her, and the football team hated anyone involved with the Celibacy Club.  )

Dear Yuletide Writer,

First of all, THANK YOU! Thank you for both participating and also liking the same thing as me (is that something I should thank you for, or compliment us both on having good taste?). I will be absolutely thrilled with whatever you write for me, but as someone who doesn't like going into things blindly, here's a quick, more detailed run-down of my requests if you're like that too.

In general I tend not to like smut, whiny characters, AUs that change a story's entire premise, and over-the-top gestures. I LOVE subtelty, strong female characters (to steal a phrase from Joss Whedon), mostly het but with exceptions (see below), fluff, angst, flangst, and endings that are either ambiguous or happy.

Now for a few more specifics

Merlin Conspiracy

I somehow ended up rereading this twice within six months, and now I am absolutely desperate for more.  I love the foundations DWJ set for Nick and Roddy---Nick's puppy-dog crush turning into respect and Roddy slowly coming to like him--and I'd love to see where that takes them a couple of years down the road.

Fringe
I love my cracky science fiction show! I love the sort of teasing chemistry that Peter and Olivia have right now and if you don't want to take it beyond that, I totally understand especially since Jaybrams keeps saying that it will never happen anyways. If you want to write a fic about a case and include the rest of the team, I would love that as well.

Libba Bray--Great and Terrible Beauty
I was totally wrecked by the end of Sweet Far Thing but I loved the hopeful note it ended on. If you could write something about Gemma, Felicity, and Anne after they left Spence (Anne and Gemma visit Felicity in Paris?), I think that would be itneresting. I'm definitely open to Gemma/Felicity, but if you aren't comfortable with that, you can keep it gen.

Once again, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I know that I am going to love whatever you write, and I can't wait to get it!

Happy writing!

thenewradical

P.S. I'm going to apologize in advance for taking until probably the day after the fic has been released to review it. I spend Christmas with my family, which includes two nephews under the age of 6, so my Christmas Day is usually kind of insane. But I promise I will read it as soon as I can!

I had a wonderful Christmas, and was fortunate enough to get tons of fun gifts from family and fun online ones as well, which I will now link to.

--[info]trolllogicfics wrote me the most wonderful Supernatural/Pushing Daisies crossover called Baking for the Dead, which I insist that you go read, even if you don't watch either show, because that's how wonderful it is.
--[info]crazybohemian18 made me Go Fug Yourself icons, which is really the best thing ever to happen to lj icons.
--I got two fics from the Yuletide Treasure fic exchange, both for Neverwhere. Places Between is short but so vivid. So much gets across in just a few lines. Mad Lord Time is wonderful and a little depressing, about Door and Richard visiting New York City Below on New Year's. It's very Gaiman-esque in the little details. Thank you to my two secret Santas for those! It made for pleasant Christmas Day reading.

I hope that everyone had a nice holiday, filled with food and family and maybe a Law and Order marathon on TV.

(On the fic front: I have a few things that I hope to post soon, so watch this space)

"Okay, be honest," Kristen Bell begins. "If you were dating a guy, and he started sleeping with your friend’s stepmom, would you take him back? Because I think it’s a little gross."

Except for the part....where he wasn't cheating on Veronica when they were dating? And when she broke up with him? When she was the best thing is his life? And the part where Dick's not her friend? And everything in your argument?

Seriously, I think Kristen Bell's an amazing actress, but something about her bugs me in real life, namely the fact that she apparently doesn't watch her own show.

Tagged by [info]marwen17 and [info]crazybohemian18 to do this ages ago. Since most of my flist has already done it, I won't tag anyone.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your live journal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

1. Call n' Return--HelloGoodbye
2. Vienna--The Fray
3. Brick--Ben Folds Five
4. You Wouldn't Like Me--Tegan and Sara
5. Elaphant Parade--Jon Brion
6. Sally--Army of Me
7. Warehouse--Dave Matthews Band

Explain your LiveJournal name and its meaning. When you're done, tag as many people as there are letters in your name

It's kind of simple, really. I love this band called The New Radicals. They were the first "grown-up" CD I had (I was nine), and I still love them today. I thought it would make for a cool LJ name, since The New Radical does have that certain je ne sais quoi about it.
